Don’t Stand in the Way of Yourself©

Today I came across some notes I had made to myself in June of 1988. The first line said, "Don't st
and in the way of yourself". Pretty heady stuff when one thinks about it. Why do we limit ourselves? We have tremendous inner reserves and potentials, yet most of us don't use it. Why? Perhaps it is because we stand in our own way! Remember the immortal words of Pogo, "We have met the enemy and it is us!" Consider the word genius. It contains significant resonance with the much older term genie. What was or is a genie? A magic spirit, sometimes benevolent who is able to grant miraculous favors on special occasions. This interpretation may go beyond the ordinary person; however we all have genius inside us and we can discover it when we are not standing in our own way. There are other things we have within. What about intuition? Knowing from within! Or the words inspire which literally means inner breath. How about knowledge? Gnosis and ignore, an active, but subtle hint at knowing something or ignoring it. Discover the word insight an etymological unconscious that acknowledges the linkage between attention and understanding. By cultivating insight or looking into our own minds we could gain insight which is the linkage between attention and understanding and we could help ourselves to stop standing in our own way. Perhaps genius is nothing more than a learned state of consciousness, a way of attending to a stream of mental experiences. Perhaps if we stopped standing in our own way we could hear the inner melodies. When we achieve breakthrough insight we can find guidance and inspiration if we only learned to be still and listen to those inner melodies. But how can we hear them when we keep our world full of NOISE? Did you ever wonder why people go to quiet places? They go to listen to the Major and Minor Prophets! It takes some time to learn to listen to these and to tell them apart. When Michael Angelo painted the Sistine Chapel he painted both the Major and Minor Prophets with the cherubim at the ear. Look at a picture of this painting and you will see that only the Major Prophets are listening. This is sometimes referred to as the unconscious Idea Processor. So if people who experience a break though state are all listening… what are they listening to? Whatever the other part of the mind happens to be there and how can we learn to listen too? Inner listening is developed. We have to develop the capacity to "hear" the special of the "other self". Inner listening is a capacity that lies dormant in everyone. In today's fast and noisy world and in the world of computers we all know the word, "GIGO". Garbage In, Garbage Out or in other words are we living a life in a rubbish heap or a gold mine.
Think about this and decide whether or not you are standing in the way of yourself.
