I’m Proud to Be Me©

I know it sounds sort of egotistical.  However, when one thinks about it and looks at how the world has become, I do not think many people are proud to be themselves.  We take so much for granted.

Reflecting on my past 76+ years I am proud of many things and not so proud of other things I have done as is probably true of all human beings.

Yet I decided to think about the things I am proud of, even the little things.

I am proud to have lived in a free country where I got a good education and learned to read and write.  I wish I had not taken it for granted or to have been so bored in school.

I am proud to be able to continue learning more even as I head down the last legs of my life.

I am proud to be able to say I learned to ride a bicycle, cross country ski and roller skate.  I never could master ice skating, down hill skiing and water skiing.

I am proud to be able I overcame my fear of heights by taking balloon rides, helicopter rides, glider flying and regular flying.

I am proud to be able say I worked my career until I became one of the best in my field over a span of 43 years of “putting beans on the table”.

I am proud to be able say I raised 5 children reasonably well so they all became good human beings and that included a lot of help from my favorite man.

I am proud to be able still sit across the table each morning from my favorite man.

I am proud to be able to say I am still friends with our children because not only do I love them, I happen to like them.

I am proud to be able to have overcome a serious stroke and a serious bout with cancer.

I am proud to be able to use my painting proceeds to help the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

I am proud to be able to respond to friends and family requests for anything they might need.

I am proud to be able to do this writing assignment.

Tread the Earth Lightly and let your day be filled with...

Peace, light and love,

A life well lived. Now that is something to be proud of. Have you thought about a memoir? I was happy to read your wonderful article, and I was pleased to be taken on a visual journey as I read it. More power, and more pride to ya!

Christofer,

Thank you for your kind comments. Perhaps some day on the memoir, I am too busy right now looking forward to the future than reflecting on the past.

Keep well, Arlene Wright-Correll
